Treatment For Genital Warts Can Include Natural Therapy Along With Prescription Drugs

Posted on: August 31, 2011

Genital warts occur both in men and women in the genital area. This is a common infection and almost 40% of the human race suffers from it. There are about 100 types of warts. The following are some of the types of warts:
1. Genital and anal warts
2. Common warts (rough flesh colored, found on hands and knees)
3. Plantar warts (hard and generally having black specks, found on the bottom of the foot)
4. Flat warts (brownish, dark red or skin colored, found on the face)

The subtypes 6 and 11 are resposible for 90% of all genital warts. The worse part is that the human papilloma virus is not treatable. You cannot get rid of it through any medicine. However, the immune syetem of the body can clear the virus through interleukins , which recruits interferons that slows viral replication. However, there are many methods of treating genital warts. Getting it diagnosed is more important, because not all warts in the genital area are Condylomata acuminata.

If you find some wart like growth in the areas where the Condylomata acuminata are likely to grow, see a doctor first. Depending on the location and size of the growth, the doctor may offer one of the following treatments:
1. Podophilox is the first line of treatment for genital warts not only because it is cost effective, but also because it can be applied by the patient himself.
2. Imiquimod, sinecatechins etc are some more patient-applied cream.
3. Applying liquid nitrogen is an effective way of removing the genital warts. It is even safe for pregnant woman. However recurrance of warts is common.

4. Trichloroacetic acid is eqaully effective, but not recommended for use in places like vagian, cervix etc.
5. Electro Surgical Excision is effectivefor large warts.
6. Laser Surgery is an expensive option, but not always 100% effective.
7. A 20% podophyllin anti mitiotic solution is effective, but has many side effects.
8. Interferon helps the immune system of the body to fight the infection. It is very expensive, but inconsistant.

Following are some of the clinical treatment that you can take up:
1. Liquid Nitrogen Cryosurgery is safe and more or less effective..
2. Loop Electro Surgical Excision is best for large warts
3. CO2 Laser Surgery is an expensive method, but does not seem more effective than other surgeries.
4. Another expensive method is Interferon, which is injected into the warts. It helps the immune system of the body to fight HPV.
5. A 20% podophyllin anti mitiotic solution can be applied to the affected area and is then washed of. However, as it produces many side effects, it should be done under the doctor's supervision.
6. Trichloracetic is also an ointment that should be applied by the doctor himself because it has a great risk if scarring.
7. Imiquimod or podofilox can be applied by the patient himself 3/4 days per week, but on doctor's recommendation.

The germs do not cause the warts immediately upon entering the body, but remains latent for a long period before manifesting as genital warts. However, it can infect other people even in the latent stage. So, neither you nor your partner will never know that s/he is carrying the germs of Condylomata acuminata. Use of condoms therefore, minimises the risk of infection to a graet extend. Basic hygine and a strong immune system also helps to get rid of the virus very quickly. Lead a healthy life and include sufficient quantity of folic acid and beta carotene in your diet to strengthen the immune system.

Many genital warts cream are also sold over the counter. Some of them are very effective. However, you will have to beleive what the label say, you have no way of verifying the truth. Besides what is good for Jack may not be suitable for Jill. It is alwys better to see a doctor first and follow his prescription. In genaral, these prescription medicines contain silver oxide which kills the germs, organic beeswax that reduces the inflammation and some natural oils that not only moisturizes the skin, but get rid of toxic materials that causes the inflammation. There are of course other ingredients that contribute to quick healing. We do not know anything about the over the counter drugs and so we should not rely too much in them.

You can however undertake some natural therapy along with prescription medicines to combat genital warts effectively. Use of banana peel, garlic paste or sesame oil is good antidote. See, if you can get beeswax. It will reduce the intensity of the infection. But never use tea tree oil. It is too harsh and may damage the skin permanantly. There are some good homeopathic medicines too. You can try them.
